Community Partner Spotlight: Family Nurturing Center

Family Nurturing Center

Family Nurturing Center, whose work began in 1975, is a non-profit social service agency dedicated to ending the cycle of child abuse by promoting individual well-being and healthy family relationships. Located in Northern Kentucky and Hamilton County, their services and programs focus on the education, prevention, and treatment of all forms of child abuse and neglect.

“Family Nurturing Center is thrilled to partner with WHW on this important collaboration. Our therapist complements the continuum of services provided by WHW, and empowers women by helping them heal from past and current trauma in their lives. We share a common philosophy with the staff of Women Helping Women that respects and validates the client’s past while helping them move forward with new choices and a sense of hope for the future,” said Family Nurturing Center Executive Director Jane Herms, MSW.

As a partner with WHW, Family Nurturing Center provides 12 hours of one-on -one therapy per week to WHW clients in the agency’s Hamilton County and Butler County offices. Beginning in May 2016, Family Nurturing Center has provided therapy services to adult sexual assault survivors at no charge to the client.

“Family Nurturing Center’s services are a huge need and a huge help. We love the partnership, the expertise, and trauma-informed care of the therapist with the survivors,” WHW President & CEO Kristin Smith Shrimplin said.

The services provided by Family Nurturing Center have had a positive impact on the growth and accessibility of WHW services to survivors. The services are provided free to survivors through a Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) Grant. Since its launch, the therapy services have been in high demand. With limited funds and spots available for therapy, the wait list continues to grow.

“It is a huge value added and we are looking for continued funds to grow the program in order to meet the needs of surivors who are currently on our waiting list,” Shrimplin said.
